ABOUT US

Built by Golfers, for Golfers

In the early 1970s, a group of passionate golfers envisioned something different—a private, year-round golf sanctuary that put the game first. That vision became reality with the founding of Mayacoo Lakes Country Club.

The group secured land in West Palm Beach and partnered with a young Jack Nicklaus and designer Desmond Muirhead to craft one of Nicklaus’s earliest course designs. The result? A bold, strategic layout that quickly earned national recognition, including a place on Golf Digest’s list of Top 100 Courses in America shortly after opening in 1972.

Early members accessed the course via State Road 7 and gathered in a trailer that served as a makeshift clubhouse. By 1976, the club had built a permanent home, laying the foundation for decades of growth and camaraderie.

Tradition, Elevated

Since those early days, Mayacoo has continually evolved—while preserving the spirit of its original design. In 2007, Mayacoo underwent a major course renovation led by Kipp Schulties Golf Design, Inc. We were proud to have Kipp redesign and rebuild the course, which reopened in December of that year. Under his expert guidance, the course was masterfully updated—earning Golf Digest’s “Best New Remodel” in 2008—while preserving the timeless character that defines Mayacoo. Today Mayacoo offers:

  • A beautifully maintained Jack Nicklaus-designed championship course
  • Year-round tennis and swimming
  • A welcoming clubhouse with upscale dining and social spaces
  • A calendar filled with member events, tournaments, and mixers
